Human volunteer studies for beauty: acquisition strengthens UK company
A UK company that specialises in contract research for the beauty and healthcare industries has announced the acquisition of a similar company, which specialises in human volunteer studies.

Cutest Systems, a contract research organisation (CRO) based in Cardiff has acquired Reading Clinical Research, another CRO, as part of its ongoing business growth and expansion, the company says.

“RCR Aspect is a CRO specialising in human volunteer studies for beauty care, medical devices and pharmaceutical products and this acquisition will strengthen the portfolio of services that Cutest Systems can offer across these sectors,” Cutest explains.

The integration of the new company is taking place over the coming few months, according to Cutest.

Testing in Europe

Testing for beauty in Europe has been a key area of focus for the industry since the full ban on animal testing came into play in 2013.

Indeed, trade association Cosmetics Europe is one group at the forefront of this push, with its Alternatives to Animal Testing (ATT) initiative.

ATT looks to create test methods that avoid the use of live animals, both for the European market and for the global industry more broadly.

Strategic growth

Cutest’s acquisition to invest in human voluntary studies comes as part of its ongoing growth plans, the company explains. In October 2015, the company was restructured, with new investment and a new board to support these.

“This acquisition is part of the strategic expansion of Cutest Systems following new investment in 2015, and will further strengthen our services in the personal care, medical device and pharmaceutical sectors, supporting the ongoing growth of the combined companies.

“We are pleased to be providing ongoing service and support for clients of RCR Aspect and looking forward to working with them in the future.”
