Medicine Hunter Chris Kilham stopped spoke with Cosmetics Design at the in-cosmetics event in Hamburg to discuss superflowers, the issue of mis-identification in botanical sourcing, and where he's off to next sourcing for Naturex.

Following a packed out presentation at the show, Chris stopped by our booth to talk about Naturex's new portfolio of flower blossom extracts and some of the sourcing issues the industry deals with in this area.

According to Kilham, this new collection explores the phytochemistry behind exotic flowers like Ginger Torch, Porcelain Rose, Blue Lotus and Pomegranate Flower to create formulations that are able to fight glycation and oxidation and improve skin complexion.

This publication also touched on the issue of mis-identification of plants or the addition of plant parts with the botanical expert.

"The WTO has identified this as a real issue," he says.

"Some are accidental – people think they have one plant when they have another. Some is highly intentional, maybe a plant is very expensive but you can add other plant material to it that’s cheap but looks the same," he reveals.
