DSM UV filter PARSOL TX deemed SCCS compliant

The SCCS standards for using the nano form of titanium dioxide as a dermally applied UV filter comprise a purity of at least 99% in rutile form and a photocatalytic activity of under 10%.

The DSM product is an inorganic filter made from 100% rutile form. And the company reports that it is quite photo stable and compatible with other UV filters.

"We are excited about this positive development for nano grades of Titanium Dioxide. We are pleased to see that its tangible benefits over conventional titanium dioxide, for both consumers and customers, are confirmed by the growth of the product over recent years,” remarked Aline Hueber, global marketing manager sun care at the company.

Consumer experience

DSM’s own research shows that consumers will not repurchase sunscreen products that are unpleasant to the touch. The PARSOL TX product aims to get around that concern: “Thanks to its formulation properties, it offers unrivalled flexibility across a wide range of sun- and skin-care product formulations including make-up products and the latest additions in the personal care market’s BB and CC cream formulations,” according to DSM.
