Ingredients supplier Dow Corning launched its new Liquid Satin blend at the in-cosmetics event in Barcelona and it couldn’t have got any better having won the gold for the event’s Best Ingredient (Functional) Award.

We caught up with Marie Elliott, Regional Marketing Leader at Dow Corning, who gave us the rundown of the new silicone and its launch.

“We have a number of products and concepts launching at the show this year, and we are delighted to be recognised in this way,” she tells CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com.

“The 3901 Liquid Satin Blend has a unique rheology and is extremely versatile, for use in skin care and colour cosmetics, and it can be used in different concentrations, including in particularly low concentrations, which makes it cost effective.”

The product itself has a unique texture and distinctive sensory profile, which Elliott says enables it to be used in formulations that not only deliver performance, but also a good sensory experience with a luxurious feel, that is also long-lasting.

“Nowadays we expect cosmetics, such as alphabet creams and other skin care products, to have multifunctional benefits, and this now extends to an exceptional sensory experience too,” continues Marie. “With this product we believe we have met this demand.”

Hair care offering

At in-cosmetics, Dow Corning also unveiled its new CB-3046 Fluid for water-based hair care formulations, which provides frizz control with a light feel.

Europe Hair Care market leader Sylvain Massé tells CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com that this launch was driven from demand from Western Europe and that frizz control solutions are in high demand.

“This kind of product is filling a gap and is something that Europe has been calling out for,” he says. “We first introduced this in the US last year and it was well received by customers, and the positivity extends now to Europe and hopefully beyond with this global launch.”

It enables customers to formulate water-based leave-in frizz control products that surpass the performance of competitive water-based and traditional anhydrous offerings without a heavy, greasy feel and the styling difficulties associated with them, regardless of hair type.

Dow Corning has also developed a new testing method to test frizz control, called the Frizz Index, and used this to test at high humidity levels compared to competitive solutions available today.
