Swiss ingredients provider has launched a new concept that highlights formulation solutions specifically targeting teenage personal care issues.

The ‘youth concept’ is due to be officially unveiled at the forthcoming in-cosmetics event, to be held in Milan at the end of March, and highlights conditions such as oily skin hydration, dandruff and sun protection for both hair care and skin care formulations.

In addition to product efficacy, the solutions also stress the all-important physical appearance of formulations for decorative cosmetics, highlighting the shine and brightness that younger adults often want to achieve, Clariant says.

The portfolio also taps into the growing interest in natural formulations, which in respect to sensitivity issues often related to teenage skins, is potentially interesting to formulators because of solutions that emphasise mildness and skin-friendliness.

New portfolio to be shown at in-cosmetics

Clariant says that highlights from its new portfolio will be platformed at booth N40 during the in-cosmetics show, and will include vegetable-based products, shine-enhancing emulsifiers and rheology modifiers.

“During their teenage and young adult years both boys and girls have very specific requirements for their hair and skin,” said Anne Timm, Head of Sales & Application, Personal Care EMEA at Clariant.

“Our solutions create straight-forward possibilities to develop formulations that tackle the issues relevant today, and lay a foundation for healthier skin and hair in the future.”

A full range of teenage-focused ingredients

At the in-cosmetics show the company will highlight ingredient solutions under the new concept that will include Hostapon SG – an amino acid surfactant for sulphate-free rinse-off products; Silcare Silicone WSI – a water-in-oil silicone emulsifier for creams and color cosmetics and Velsan SC a natural synergistic aid that reduces the need for preservatives.

On top of these individual ingredients, the new portfolio also holds the Aristoflex range of polymers. It includes AVS, AVC and HMB polymers, aimed at providing non-tacky skin feel and fast-acting refreshing affect, qualities that Clariant says are particularly appreciated by teenagers.

The Aristoflex TAC is suitable as a suspending agent in pearls, bubbles, and particles in rinse-off applications such as shower gels and liquid soaps, as well as shampoos and facial cleansers, Clariant claims.
