Three major trends influencing luxury packaging design have been identified by LuxePack in advance of a trend observer workshop.

Leading names in packaging creation and design will gather in Monaco for the workshop on 29 October as part of the luxury packaging show LuxePack.

Renaissance, double agent and grasp are the three creative trends that the speakers have picked out.

Representatives from the trade press and design agencies will flesh out these trends at the workshop with examples and illustrations.

Leading design trends

Looking briefly at each, ‘renaissance’ refers to the way in which brands can grow and ensure continued appeal by delving back into their roots.

‘Double agent’ looks at how luxury packaging is beginning to embrace the value of the object and the image rather than opting for one of these two functions.

The last of the three trends is ‘grasp’, and this evokes the tactile and the importance of creating packaging that makes a product feel luxury.

Besides the trend observer workshop, LuxePack will feature an all day convention from the European Brand Design Association (PDA) that asks how a brand can be desirable and durable.

Eco-design will also be a hot topic at the show with speakers from Tetra Pak and LVMH talking about the environmental impact of packaging across the product lifecycle and how luxury packaging and the environment may be reconciled.

Visitor numbers

LuxePack is one of the highlights of the luxury packaging calendar attracting 6,000 visitors last year, of who over 50 per cent were from outside of France.

Fragrance and cosmetics dominate the show with over 70 per cent of visitors coming from these sectors in 2007.
